Default Good System?

I've come up with components that I plan to put together into a sound system
for my 99 Eclipse. Please tell me if you think there is a way I can make
the system better, or changes I should make, that will not cost me
more....this system is on about as big a budget as I can get:

Head Unit:
Pioneer DEH-P6600 In-Dash CD Player 189.60

http://www.digitalfotoclub.com/sc/ma...ate=05_25_2004

Amp:

Sony 1200W Bridgeable 2-Channel MOSFET Amplifier with Variable Low-Pass
Crossover

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....ef=03&l oc=01

Subs (2):

Infinity 12" 1200-Watt Subwoofer

http://www.circuitcity.com/detail.js...UseBVCookie=No

So if you see any problems with my system please tell me. I really don't
know what to do about an amp because I want some good power but they are so
expensive. That one looked to be a good deal. That head unit was the best
looking one I could find to fit my car...and the subs have really good
reviews, relatively good stats, and a good price with the current buy one
get one half off deal.

Thanks for your opinion.

What are you doing for the rest of the speakers, and how are you going
to power them? A 1200-Watt amp (even if it is really just 500W X 1
RMS) and a pair of 12" subs seems like overkill if you're using the
stock speakers for the rest of the car and planning on powering them
with the head unit.

Thanks for the suggestion Mister B but unfortanetly when I said I was on as
strick a budget as possible....I wasn't making an understatement....also I'm
apprehensive to buy anything that expensive when I can't even tell waht the
product is. Should I still ignore your original post?

I have a question about mono sub amps.....are mono sub amps not set up to
run only one sub? hence the "mono"? I've never been able to really
understand what a mono sub amp does thats different from 2 channel or multi
channel amps...could you explain that to me?

Mono sub amps only have one channel of amplification, whereas a
multi-channel amp may have 2, 3, 4 or more channels.

Even though a mono amp only has one channel, that doesn't mean that
you're limited to one subwoofer, though. You can hook up several subs
to that single amp channel in a series, parallel, or series-parallel
arrangement, as long as the overall impedance of the speakers is
within the allowable range for the amp.

Since all of the speakers will be reproducing the same signal, they're
still referred to as "mono". It's kind of like when you play an old
Beatles song through your home stereo. Even though the sound is
coming from multiple speakers, it's still "mono", because all the
speakers are playing the same signal.

Mono amps are simply single channel amps . The best are Class D whic
only run low frequencies usually and have a more efficient way of usin
power since they dont run the whole range of frequencies .. Some chea
ones run only 4 ohm ( which could be (2)-8ohm woofers in serie
together ) Many others will power a 2 ohm load ( which could be (2)-
ohm woofers in series together or (1) DVC Woofer wired for 2 ohm o
(3)-8ohm woofers together )
They are not designed for a single woofer neccessarily , just for
certain load .. You get more watts for you money if you go with a su
amp capable of running 1 ohm loads and running (2) DVC woofers wire
for 2ohms each together ... Which is why I made the suggestion
originally ..
If you go with my original post , then you are basically matching you
original budget with much nicer equipment .. What are you going t
power you highs with ? the head unit ? If so I recommend getting bas
blockers for them until ( if you do ) you upgrade them to som
amplification .

Class D amps are more efficient because they have a different topology. The
switching freq determines it's usable HF cutoff. There are full range class
D amps some of which are MORE efficient because of the higher switching
freeq's and tighter tolerance compnents used. IOW freq response is not the
determining factor in any amplifier's efficiency.

Some cheap
ones run only 4 ohm ( which could be (2)-8ohm woofers in series
together ) Many others will power a 2 ohm load ( which could be (2)-4
ohm woofers in series together or (1) DVC Woofer wired for 2 ohm or
(3)-8ohm woofers together )

3X 8 ohm woofers is NOMINAL 2.66666667 Ohms.
