How does a new U67 hold up against a well-maintained original U67? A
local studio bought a new Telefunken U47 to compare with an original with a VF14, and they were unable to hear a difference, based on what the engineer told me. |

I haven't tried the new U67 reissue, but Klaus Heyne says it's close aside from the capsule tensioning which he says can be remedied. This would make sense. He likes the idea of the EF86, as do I. > A >local studio bought a new Telefunken U47 to compare with an original >with a VF14, and they were unable to hear a difference, based on what >the engineer told me. I am surprised. I have never heard two original U47s that sounded the same, so I would be very shocked to find a reissue matching all of them. The problem with the "U47 sound" is that nobody can agree what it is, because everyone has a different idea having worked with different U47s. --scott -- "C'est un Nagra. I'm told by a friend that it matched one of my 1959 67s to the point of being completely interchangeable.
