Question @ Amp-Powered 6x9's and Sub
Hi!
I just got a pair of Pioneer TS-A6999 3-way 6x9s and have them installed in speaker boxes. I want to hook up an amp to them, and I was considering getting a sub. For details on the speakers, got to www.pioneerelecttronics.com and run a search for TS-A6999 (they're the only results that come up) and click on 'Specifications' tab. Anyway, my questions a 1. The speakers are rated as 240 Watts Max. Music Power (60 Watts Nominal). What specific wattage/type/etc. of amp should I buy to power them? 2. The speakers have a freq. response of 30 - 32,000 Hz. So far, they have only been powered by a little Sony 35 Watt x 4 head unit, and I have NOT been impressed by the bass (or lack thereof) from these speakers. So... would an amp solve this problem, or do I really need a sub? If I need a sub, how does this affect the amp I buy? (I assume I just need one amp to power both 6x9's and the sub). Thanks for any help you guys and gals can lend, I really appreciate it! -Bob |

Hi Bob
I would recommend getting a Sub and an amp to power it. Putting an amp on the 6x9's would help a little but not enough to justify the cost. Keep the 6x9's on the power of the head unit to start and you can always add an amp later. the main problem is that 6x9's are designed to use the truck volume as the box, so putting them in smaller boxes takes away from there bass response. adding just 1 sub woofer will make a bigger impact on the overall sound than anything you can do with the 6x9's. hope this helps "Bob" wrote in message oups.com...
