I think the folks like Huckabee are a much more immediate threat to our society. BTW, a few terrorist attacks, while indeed frightful, will not topple the US. As I've said many times, if someone wants to hit us, they likely will. No defense is 100% effective, "at least" while maintaining individual freedom.- I don't think Huckabee is about to topple the US. I think the fundies are working on it. Huckabee is a fundie. Melding government and religion (*their* religion), using the Constutution at the federal and state levels to *deny* rights rather than *insure* them, and so on, are not positive steps IMO. But, religious agendais only part of the reason I don't support him. Who wants a President whose anme sounds like Huckleberry Hound and looks too much like Gomer Pyle? The people who went to the causcuses in Iowa, apparently. having been born in Des Moines, I simply ask not to confuse ALL Iowans with a few of the whackjobs that supported this southern-fried jackass. Iowa is a fairly moderate state, despite the rantings of many so-called politico-journalists (like Russert or Matthews). |

Iowa is a fairly moderate state, despite the rantings of many so-called politico-journalists (like Russert or Matthews). Unfortunately not all Iowans attended the caucuses, which is why I specified only those that did. There was no confusion. The way candidates get chosen is that the people motivated enough/ interested enough/partisan enough actually go to the caucuses and vote. They choose who's running. My guess is that those people represent a minority. There's data out there, I'm sure, showing what percent of Iowans went to the caucus. Was it over 50%? Most people (the majority, those who chose not to attend) then sit back and bitch that they "don't have a choice" or they wonder how this "southern- fried jackass" got selected as a candidate. My first question to someone who bitches about the candidates is whether they actually helped select them or not. My first question to someone bitching about a politician is whether they voted or not. You might be surprised how often the answer is "no". |

My first question to someone bitching about a politician is whether they voted or not. You might be surprised how often the answer is "no". A few years back, my mother was in the process of bitching about both the Governor of Washington as well as the President of the US. Well, it didn't take much for me to bitch about El bushwipe either, but to have her rant and rave about how he does nothing for senior citizens (which may be true) provoked me to ask 'Who did you vote for?'. When she said she doesn't vote because 'all politicians are worthless to begin with...', I simply told her 'you have no right to bitch then. If you have no ambition to sit on your ass, fill out your ballot (Washington is vote by mail...) and drop it off in the mailbox, then you have no right to bitch. Period!' The same holds true for my step-dad who served in the Korean War, and yet has never bothered to vote. Sad when you think about it. |
