THX speakers
Hello,
I have a new THX-select rated receiver and am looking at speakers. the system is primarily for home theatre. The speakers I like (Or b audio) aren't THX rated and the manufacturer emailed me this: Our speakers will work fine with a THX receiver...the THX specification calls for the satellites to be crossed over at 80hz, and our speakers are designed with that in mind. We have not submitted our speakers for certification by THX because it is cost-prohibitive for a small company, and in the end performance is what counts. How important is the THX designation for speakers in your opinion? Thanks, Dave |

You are not officially THX certified, but how could that make any difference for a home system? -john- -- ================================================== ================== John A. Creative owns the THX brand? Please help us with more information. I checked that and I didn't remember it was just 'reliable' rumor that Creative bought 60% of THX: http://www.highfidelityreview.com/ne...snumber=499199 Actually 60% of THX was sold, but not only to Creative. None of the shareholders hold a majority: http://www.highfidelityreview.com/ne...wsnumber=76066 I triend to find out how much Creative actually owns, but since the share is less than 50% there is no need to reveal this fact in their annual report and they are not telling it in their press releases either. From this silence I would assume that Creative has something like 49%, Lucas 40% and those private investors 11%. Creative stays silent about their investment since thay want more credibility for their THX rated soundcards and PC speakers. I'm sorry for misinformation in my previous post. Lasse Ukkonen |

what speakers are you considering? I'm looking at Orb Audio Mod1 & Mod2 and Anthony Gallo micro satellites right now, maybe more if suggested. I'm worred about the Gallo's though because I'm finding a bunch on the used market and the Orb Audios don't have much info available from outside reviewers. The little they do have available though is outstanding. Are you at all familiar with Orb Audio? |

I have several years expereince with the Gallos. Nice speakers, but lacking
in top end and bottom end. I recently replaced mine with the Monitor's Radius set. IMO, a far superior solution, though I never used Gallo's sub with their speakers (used one I had already). I considered the Dues as well. They sounded great in the store, but my wife prefers the look of the Monitors (more "traditional" I guess) and they sound plenty "good enough" for the family room application. I forget if they are THX certified. I don't think I even checked when shopping ;^) "Dave" wrote in message ... not very. nice to have, but not necessary. what speakers are you considering? Thanks, Dave __________________________________________________ _______ One will do well to forget worrying about the "THX" designation. The audio world will do quite well without these "Johnny come lately" recommendations. Most users do not understand what THX is, but...somehow it must be important. Not to worry, buy any equipment without that logo...you'll do fine. Nebulous stuff here! Observe closely who is pushing the imagined benefits of this logo. Note also that some of the finest equipment is..."by design" not carrying that logo! A lot of well established knowns long before the advent of the THX fluff! A set of recommendations of well known standards...insults some old time Engineers. Pitiful stuff. Let us all await in anticipation for the next wonder...."ZXX"..nothing will be up to "snuff" without this bright gold logo...ad infinitum! Sales..sales..folk! Follow the money trail! Leonard... |
