Risks of datareduced music
Hi,
Very interesting article and hoping to see whether this article will provide some clues on digital sound, fatigue factor, High resolution format and etc etc. Some excerpts:- "the CODEC can reconstruct from these an approximation of the original picture or sound signal that appears as similar as possible for the human conscious perception, but is not identical to the original signal. The danger of this exploitation of human perception flaws is that especially by lossy audio data compression sound portions get systematically destroyed, those although the brain would not pass them to the conscious awareness, are likely necessary for the human hearing's own perpetual calibration." "The basic principle of modern audio data reduction is, that is to say, to omit during storage exactly those sound portions those an average human being would not consciously perceive. The white science likes to call such methods gladly playing down "psychoacoustic", although in fact they have really nothing to do with psychology of sounds (e.g. the realization of noises as pleasant or unpleasant etc.) because their impact is on a far lower neurological level since they function on a model of the cochlea in the human ear and thus need to be called correctly "neuroacoustic" data reduction." http://users.informatik.haw-hamburg....-Gefahr/MP3-ri sk.html Cheers. p.s Pls email me if you need the entire article. The site is often down. |

The poor guy suffers from tinnitus and rationalizes this as the result of data reduction technics, instead of having a look at his listening habits and levels. It is the typical rationalization pattern that can be created by abuse of psychoactive drugs or medicines. As long as he can articulate on the internet and doesn't do harm to himself or others this is perfectly OK in my eyes, but the credibility is not that high. I just read on and he even claims to be enlightened. My guess with the drugs seem to be right on spot. Get real Chelvam, you should not be impressed by a pseudo-scientific language, it is exactly the same with those quack-claims. -- ciao Ban Bordighera, Italy |

Nice you took it like that, Chelvam, it's really a funny site. Must be one of the college-kids, they get some free space and put up anything- he actually mentions that on the home page, the university only gives a limited space so he has to keep the pages as simple as possible. The most space is dedicated to his "art". He likes the trance-techno "music", guess about the tinnitus. -- ciao Ban Bordighera, Italy |
