Default Replace midbass drivers?

I have a set of 5 1/4 diamond hex components with the silk dometweeter. I
would like to go to a 6.5 inch mid bass. Can I simply swap out the midbass
drivers and yuse my existing crossover and tweeters? I was lookin at a CDT
HD series midbass. They have a coupke different crossovers but I do not
know how they would compare to the diamond hex crossovers. Any similar
experiences? Please share your experiences (good or bad). Thanks.

I have mixed and matched MB Quart and Boston Accoustics X-overs and speakers
over the years and usually the results were pretty good. Some will tell you
that your Diamond X-overs are carefully matched to their respective drivers
and that using different speakers might cause phasing problems and
cancellation effects. Though this may be true in some cases, I have never
had those kind of problems (at least not that I could notice).

But, let me tell you that if you are trying to increase your midbass, moving
from a 5 1/4 to 6 1/2 speaker will make only a marginal difference. I have
never been satisfied with the amount of midbass provided by a single pair of
6 1/2 speakers in the doors. Provided your Diamond's are still in good
shape, I would recommend building kick-panels for the Diamonds (tweeter and
5 1/4 mid) and then adding that 6 1/2 in the door (you can build your own
low-pass X-over using low cost inductors at an electronic store). I promise
this will make a much more dramatic improvement to your sound.
