Roland Octa-Capture or M-Audio MTRACK-8 and Skype
Does anyone here have a Roland Octa-Capture or an M-Audio MTRACK-8 USB interface? If you do, is it by chance connected
to a computer running Skype? I'm trying to determine whether the channels show up in Skype as a pair or individually. Tools | Options | Audio Settings | Microphone. Since Skype doesn't like Firewire or ASIO, I assume that the channels will show up as a pair. My guess is that the stereo pairing is part of the WDM standard. I'm also interested in learning the same information about the Behringer X32 or the various Focusrite interfaces. |

What does Skype do with a stereo input? Does it give you a choice of using one channel or the other? That's what a sensible DAW does when you're recording a mono track and using a stereo interface. -- For a good time, visit http://mikeriversaudio.wordpress.com |

I could access any i/o on that interface with Skype. |

I wonder if it's still true that Skype can see all Firewire channels on an external interface. If so, does it see them as individual channels or as stereo pairs? If it is stereo pairs, does it sum left and right, or does it see one channel only, like Windows? Can you still get a Mac with Firewire? |

Skype only sees the left channel audio. That sounds like the only answer needed, and it's a perfectly good way to work, as long as you know which input of the interface to use. -- For a good time, visit http://mikeriversaudio.wordpress.com |

Not sure why you're just getting one channel. I ran the echo /audio test on my Skype and get 2 channels with a MOTU 828 and Firewire on Win7-64. In every test I've done, Skype only sees left channel input, whether it's on board audio, M-Audio cards, or USB cards. Did you try sending audio during the echo test from just the right channel or just the left channel? What's intriguing is that Skype can even see the MOTU of Firewire. That's good to know. Skype does send audio to left and right outputs. |
