Any LAME experts here?
Avoiding the obvious joke about how lame some of the "experts" here are
g, I'll ask the question anyway: Is anyone here well-versed in command-line switches for the LAME mp3 encoder under Windows? I have two folders full of files; one has several hundred mono wav files, the other has stereo wav files. All are 44.1K/16 bit. I'd like to batch convert them to mp3 files. I've figured out how to force 128K mono and 256K stereo and how to force high quality mode. What I can't figure out is how to convert a whole batch at a time. I found a .bat file in the LAME directory, but it appends the file suffix rather than replacing it. Instead of filename.wav becoming filename.mp3, it becomes filename.wav.mp3 which just throws another spanner into the works. Does anyone know how to do a whole batch at once and still wind up with "typical" filenames? -- "It CAN'T be too loud... some of the red lights aren't even on yet!" - Lorin David Schultz in the control room making even bad news sound good (Remove spamblock to reply) |

(Personally, rather than direct commandline use, I do it using the foobar2000 player interface, which can pass all selected files on to LAME. The LAME parameters are set in the 'Diskwriter' preferences.... There are probably user interfaces out there especially for LAME, that are easier than commandline. See "LAME compatibel software' in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LAME ) |

I actually had the switch reference, but there wasn't really anything useful in terms of how to manage a batch operation. Looking at it prompted me to explore the program file folders again though, and I re-examined the vbs file included in the download. Once I figured out how to use it, my problems were over! -- "It CAN'T be too loud... some of the red lights aren't even on yet!" - Lorin David Schultz in the control room making even bad news sound good (Remove spamblock to reply) |

$Nz6.1111@edtnps82: Does anyone know how to do a whole batch at once and still wind up with "typical" filenames? You can use the existing batch file if you: Option 1: Rename the files (removing the .wav extension) before converting ren *.wav *. Option 2: Rename the files after converting ren *.wav.mp3 *.mp3 You can even add the second command to the end of the batch file. |

If you are on a Windows platform I would recommend using Razorlame for
conveniance. http://www.dors.de/razorlame/index.php /Sb Lorin David Schultz wrote: Avoiding the obvious joke about how lame some of the "experts" here are g, I'll ask the question anyway: Is anyone here well-versed in command-line switches for the LAME mp3 encoder under Windows?
