I'm about to get a new CD player, and I'm strongly considering the
Rotel 1072 and Music Hall Maverick. I've heard them both, and like
them both, but at different dealers, so I really can't say how I think
they compare with each other, only with other models in the same
store. I need help deciding.

In the Rotel's favor, it's a very straightforward machine, no extra
marketing hype about anything, and a nice $699 price. The two year
warranty is good as well.

The music hall has the hobbyist appeal of selectable
regular/upsampling/SACD, which might be fun to play with. The
availabilty of aftermarket tweaks adds more the the hobbyist
possibility. It can be obtained for about $1100. The one year warranty
is fair.

I'm really not sure if SACD is something I'll care much about, I guess
if I got a player and the sound won me over then I might get into
that. In-store SACD experiences do not yet have me ready to scrap my
800 old-fashioned CD's.

Ultimately, good music reproduction, (with a first priority on
red-book cd) matters the most to me, but I must admit some pull toward
the upsampling/sacd/mods that the Music Hall offers. Perhaps that's a
foolish pull that I best avoid, perhaps it's a gateway to more
enjoyment of the music.

So what advice do you have to help me decide?

and I have been using a Rotel 971 cd player, that has just begun to
malfunction after a few satisfying years.
