No, just the Japanese. The Italian-Americans got drafted to fight in
the Pacific, actually. At least my grandfather did. But the internment
of the Japanese was a terrible thing that did America more harm than good
(even if Ansel Adams got a great book of photos out of it). I think we
now realize that, although some people may not.

Will happen to persons of Arbic descent. So if
anybody has GOOD friends of Persian descent better
give 'em the scoop.

Of course not. How else do you explain so many registered

Democrats?

Very snappy comeback, no lets move on, thank you.

I explain the many democrats a result of the takeover of the Rep party

by
bible thumping, war mongering, racist, zealot biggots who have made

many of
us moderates ashamed to say we support any conservative ideals.

You forgot to add over-spending, deficit-inducing, debt-exploding,
government-expanding hypocrites to the list. How anyone who considers
themselves a conservative Republican can support this president is
totally beyond my comprehension. I'm glad former President Reagan isn't
aware of what's happened to his party, he'd be heartbroken.

I totally agree with you but here's a news flash....the deficit
QUADRUPLED during the Reagan years and government employment went up.
One of Ronnie's campaign promises (yeah I know they all promise crap
they can't deliver) was to do away with the deficit while cutting
taxes...I guess the Alzheimer's must have kicked in around 1979
actually.

That's what happens when you cut taxes but don't seriously cut
spending, and then dump a ton of money into defense/military.

It's getting increasingly hard to tell 1984 from 2004 in that respect

No, not just Japanese.

Italians who were not US citizens were also rounded up and sent to camps.

I live in Missoula, Montana, and there were both Japanese and Italian prisoners
here. Not Italian-Americans or Italian soldiers, just Italians who happene to
be in the wrong place at the wrong time. eg. cruise ships in Ny harbor at the
start of hostilities

The Italians were treated differently than the Japanese and were allowed
furlows to go into town and even have jobs. Some romances even came of this
and I know one Italian who stayed after the war and still lives here.

Yup. Those guys were considered noncombatant enemy citizens and were
therefore detained. This is something reasonable and allowed by the
Geneva convention.

This is a totally different thing than detaining American citizens just
because they happen to be of Japanese descent. That was not reasonable
and was a terrible thing. That's a thing we want to avoid ever happening
again.

I live in Santa Cruz, CA, where the docks and the fishing
industries were once completely dominated by the Italians.
I've been told by some of those old timers that they too
were rounded up and encamped and they were citizens. They
lost their businesses and their property in the process
according to them.
