Default Otari 5050bII Counter Problem

Have transferred all the 1/4" masters, time to sell the Otari half
track. Records fine but has a problem - the time counter advances
whether in play, FF or REV. It doesn't go backwards.

E.g. if you set it at 0:00 and let it play for one minute, then rewound
back to the top, it will read 2:00 instead of 0:00.

Scott and others, any suggestions on where to look to get it right again?

Happy New Year to all.
