Default Speaker Stands: with or without spikes?

I am about to construct a couple of speaker stands to my DM601 S2 and I
donīt know if I should use spikes between the stands and the floor. My
floor is hard (without carpet).
In case I should use them, should I use 3 or 4 per stand?
What about between the speakers and the stands? I have also seen spikes
there.

I have found contradictory information on the web about this topic, I
would like to know your opinion.
Thank you

whether you use spikes or not use three feet per speaker.

Make sure you use floor-savers unless you don't mind damaging your floor (if
wood). Do get the best coupling of your speakers to the floor, make your
stands so that they can be filled with sand or shot, and put a nice looking
sand bag on top of each speaker. You can also metal spike/rubber feet
(http://www.1stsoundoutfitters.com/newselect.htm) your speakers or the top
plate of your stands for that extra tweaking. If you don't want to go that
far, then put a gasket between the speaker and the top plate of the speaker
stand. I find that facial tissue works well.

Opinions notwithstanding, I find the best results using very heavy felt
matting between the speaker and the stand, and the stand using fairly
stiff furniture-grade silicon-rubber feet to the floor (three points,
of course). My speakers are 86dB acoustic suspension 3-way speakers
with 12" woofers, mostly I do not need building-structure reinforcement
to make good bass. The floors are hardwood, the listening venues have
very live walls but upholstered furniture. This is just me, your
situation will vary considerably, I am sure.

Try various configurations, and try to keep it as simple as possible.

BTW, for inexpensive "spikes" go to any sporting-goods shop and get
golf and/or track spikes. They come in various lengths. Then go to your
local hardware store and get threaded inserts of the proper size. These
may be countersunk into your stands and the spikes installed as you see
fit. You may also achieve some tilt using the various lengths. If
vibration is of concern, a bit of LocTite will cure that.

Note that as another has suggested, if speakers are well-coupled to the
spikes and they are on a surface softer than the metal, the vibration
will cause them to be tiny jackhammers... Just keep that in mind.

Sand.... No comment.

4 spikes, and fill the stands with something heavy -sand or lead
shot.Blu tac the speakers to the stands.

The whole point is that the firmer they are, the quicker the bass can
start and stop. The looser they are the woolier the sound. They won't
improve the bass extension/depth, just make make the bass they produce
more precise.
