McIntosh transformer covers
Hi all, does anyone know by any chance if the transformer covers on the
old McIntosh tube amplifiers MC75, MC40 etc are removable? That is, are the transformers 'potted' in the exterior cover/can? cheers and thanks |

They are potted with a tarlike substance. The preferred method of
removal seems to be to put them in the freezer and tap gently, sometimes that gets them out, otherwise you will have to soak them in a solvent which can be guaranteed to make a horrible mess. |
