Default best & simplest audio web sample method?

I've just received an unhelpful reply from Microsoft, telling me nothing
really, except to go to try and find another Microsoft where I MIGHT
have more luck!

I simply want to include a few audio samples of my work on my website so
I googled for the best method and found advice that wma files are best
because the quality is as good as mp3 but the files are half the size,
hence they download onto people's computers more quickly.

So I went to Microsoft's page where they detail the method and followed
the provided links to download Windows Media Encoder 9. The trouble is
that I now have a directory where the thing is supposed to be installed
but the only executable thing in there is a help file. It seems to me
the download file is missing half its contents. This what I wrote to
Microsoft about and some unhelpful person has just suggested I try
somewhere else for help.

Before embarking on that I thought it best to call here and ask if
anybody could give me better advice/thoughts?

Thanks.

Ellie.

Did you download the *entire* installation file?
How big was it? Their website says the 32-bit
version is 9.45MB and the 64-bit is 12.7MB
Are you running the required version of the operating system?
You can always try removing it and re-installing it.

I have downloaded it a couple of times and installed it
on several computers, without any problem.

Thanks, Richard.

The Microsoft page detailing how to stream audio in wma format
http://www.microsoft.com/ntserver/te...ng/default.asp
leads you (by a series of linkes) to download WMEncoderSDK.exe . . .
which is 3.28 MB in size.

But your advice that the file should be 9.45MB has led me to ignore
their links and find WMEncoder.exe (which is 9.45MB) - and which I am
now downloading.

So thanks very much indeed.

Lordy, these glitches are tiresome!

Can I ask your advice on speakers, please? I've been doing with the
simple multimedia speakers that came with my computer and just donning
headphones when I really want to hear absolutely everything in minutest
detail but I think it's time I invested in some decent desktop speakers.
I went into a shop yesterday and saw a pair of speakers which were
about $40 but when I examined the plugs I saw they weren't the phonos I
need for my soundcard. When explained this to the salesman told him I
wanted decent speakers for editing he said I needed speakers with an amp
in them . . . which lost me, I have to confess. Can you recommend what
I should be looking for?

Thanks again.

Ellie.
