Looking for a high efficiency 2 channel power amp.
Ideally using a switching PSU for minimum size. For use in an active speaker system. Anyone know of a manufacturer? Dirk |

Dirk I'll be following this post too, I'd like to find a supplier of small, lightweight, class D power amp modules and have had little luck with Google. For a keyboard amp/mixer head I'm designing. Most interesting so far is www.d2audio.com Dirk |

Les Cargill spake thus:

I think they do if you're *building* them. -- I hope that in a few years it [Wikipedia] will be so bloated that it will simply disintegrate, because I can't stand the thought that this thing might someday actually be used as a serious reference source. If you are a manufactuter see: http://www.tripath.com/ These are not finished modules in the sense that you would bolt them into a speaker cabinet, but they are great for design-in. ----------------------------------------------------------- spam: wordgame:123(abc):14 9 20 5 2 9 18 4 at 22 15 9 3 5 14 5 20 dot 3 15 13 (Barry Mann) [sorry about the puzzle, spammers are ruining my mailbox] ----------------------------------------------------------- |

How small do you need the amp and PSU? What sort of spec do you need
for the amp? A SMSPU for this application could (would) be bigger than a toridial and a couple of caps. We design this type of kit... |

We design this type of kit... At the present time, audio amplifiers don't have to implement power-factor-correction, so a 300W (say) switching PSU would simply bridge rectify the mains, and then feed it to a 2-transistor forward converter stage. You could get adequate power out of an ETD49 core running at 100kHz or so. -- Chris Morriss |
