If you mean closer to the floor of the room, then you
are likely to get more of a 1/4-space (or 1/8-space
in the corner) coupling. This may increase low-freq
otuput. Whether this is "better" is a different question.

Short answer: No.

Longer answer: Speakers sound best when placed where they're designed
to be placed. Near a wall, floor or corner you may get bass
reinforcement. A particular speaker may be designed to use this, or
it may over-emphasise the bass. Tweeters are directional. If they're
designed to be at ear level, that is where they should be. Small
speakers placed on the floor may give boomy bass and poor treble.
