Default Can anyone identify these noises?

Can anyone identify the low bass noise(es) on Leonard Cohen's "Chelsea Hotel
#2" for me?

I'm referring specifically to the version on "The Essential Leonard Cohen"
but I imagine it's on all versions. I initially thought it was tape motor
noise (or similar) as opposed to traffic or subway noises but then I would
have thought that motor noise would modulate the music somewhat but this
isn't the case (of course, I could be wrong on this). This is the only cut
on this CD (or any other, for that matter) with this LF content on it.

Anyway, if someone knows just what these noises are I'd like to know.

Morris
