Default Amp doing wierd things....please help....

Friend has a clarion amp....running 2 - 10" jl w3 subs....

Here is the problem... The external fuse on the amp (40A fuse i
think) blew, and the power wire fuse, at the battery, is also blowing
on us (60 A i think).

We replaced both fuses after inspecting all of the power wire, and the
ground wire. Now the subs wont pound.....they dont move at all....
THe green power light on the amp, blinks ON once every 20-25 seconds.

Oddly enough, his head lights will go Bright every 20-25 seconds
also... AND his battery dial in his instrument cluster will flicker
back and forth every 20-25 seconds also.

any ideas???

thanks

Sounds like there is a fault somewhere, possibly inside his amp, and it's
causing the protection circuits to cycle on and off.

Amp has shorted finals or a shorted FET in the power supply, don't try it
anymore and take it to a tech. There is a fellow around here under the name
ampdoc. My bench is full and I'm getting ready to leave on tour next week.
Parts are common and fairly inexpensive, FETs can ge pricey though.

The dimming of the lights is the amp pulling HUGE current when it tries to
come out of initial protect, It senses fault as soon as it comes on and
draws huge current then cycles thouugh the turn on sequence.

It's most likely shorted finals, if the power supply was damaged (FET's
shorted), then it'd pull current whether on or off. If you want me to look
at it the shop's checkout fee is $15.00, be sure to include a note with
information on the problem you are having and how to contact you. Usual
repair on shorted finals is around $65 or so, but it depends on parts cost.
We do call with an estimate before repair. We are a Authorized Service
Company for Pioneer, JVC, and Sony as well as for many Home audio & video
Mfr's .

Of course, the original cause of the problem has yet to be identified.

Probably shorted wiring or somesuch.
