Default Eclipse 8443 clock and speakers

I just installed an Ecplise cd8443 today, and so far really Like it.
Still trying to figure out some of the settings, but.. the one "issue"
I have with it is with the clock read out. It's very small and hard to
see with the blue "highlight" covering it.
Is there a setting I am missing to make it more readable?

Also, I'm only using this Deck as is, no external amp in a Ford Ranger
extened cab. I'm looking for 4ea. 5 x7 speakers for it, that are
efficient enough and still sound good, without breaking the bank.
The salesmen recommended some $60.00 Kenwoods (the 5708c's), and they
sounded allright I guess. Just want to make sure there aren't alot
better speakers for not much more money.
Thanks, Rick

I have the 8053 --similar deck but no power amp section built in for a lot
more money (!)

Yes the clock is a bear to read in daylight. If you power down the deck for
a moment the clock is easier to read.

Also, did you know you can totally dark-out the deck by holding in the power
button on the deck for 3 seconds from an on condition? No sound, but handy
for those times I need to drive without the blinding blue accent lights
around the knobs.

Great deck though--it's the first deck that I've owned where I still think
it's the best thing after living with it for a month. Oh, there's a few
wish-list things, but nobody else does better SQ features in a one-piece
unit, I don't believe. And all for 550 bucks--same as I spent on eq units
for my last deck.

I didn't know that about blanking out the entire display, I'll have to
try that!

The equalizer settings seem to be endless. I'm not using the Pro mode,
so I'm just adjusting the preset 'rock" 'jazz" etc's to my liking.
Once thing I haven't figured out if it's possible is that I'd like to
set a different preset EQ setting for each input, AM/FM/Cd. I know if
I was in pro mode, I could set the bass/treble for each input, but not
sure when not in pro mode. At least I haven't figured it out.

As far as my speakers go, I ended up getting 4 of the Eclipse SE8373
5 x 7 speakers installed. I'm not really sure I 'm going to keep them.
I think I like a little bit "brighter" sound than these offer. These
are most likely more accurate than some others, but with my little bit
of upper freq. hearing loss, there may be better choices for me.
Possibly the Infinities. And btw, the 8443 was right about $420.00.
