What is the state of the caps in the unit overall? As Jon suggests, you could also have (an) open resistor(s). But check the caps first. Whatever you do, don't run the thing until you can determine the cause. Do the output tube plates glow red when this happens? Peter Wieck Melrose Park, PA |

Yes, if you are into tubes. No, if cost is an object. If you choose to pay the typical service tech something between $75 and $125/hour for this, and it is a very-likely 2-3 hour job given the fact that they must do a full diagnosis for all faults described or hidden, not hardly. Some of us here could get it done in a fraction of that time as we would not be worried about *potential* hidden faults - those would be addressed as they became manifest - or not. You have a desireable piece. Sells for good $$ on eBay and other venues. Sells for a large fraction of those bucks *working* or not depending on how artful the description might be. Do you want to own it forever? In which case, I would suggest you learn its care-and- feeding. Do you want to flog it in the near future? In that case, just clean it up and let go at whatever it does right now. Peter Wieck Melrose Park, PA |
