Default Advice.SubChoices

Hi all. Longtime lurker, asking for advice.

I plan to use a PPI PC1800 (1x400@ 4 ohms, 1x800@2 ohms) to drive two 12
inch subs. I will sacrifice 2.0FT3 in space, mounting the amp on the top of
the box in the rear of an SUV.

This sub system replaces an Audiomobile MASS 2012 in a 1.2 FT3 box driven by
the rear two bridged channels of a PC 4800 (400x1@4). If you're interested,
this sub is for sale; the MASS 2012 provides great output from relatively
small boxes and is very accurate (unfortunately, the company is now out of
business).

We're looking for a nominal 2 ohm load here, and I've considered the
following manufacturers:

Elemental Designs Ea's
JL Audio W3's/W6's/W7
Kicker L7's
IDQ V2's (per Paul Vina)

Secondly, (Mark Zarella, your input solicited in this area) would I get
stronger output with the subs firing down, or towards the rear. My only
other experience with a sub was the system mentioned above installed in a
sedan, which provided maximum output with the sub firing rearward and on
either side of the trunk.

Thanks for your participation.
