Default trouble with sony dmx r-100 mixer

I have a friend who recently bought this mixer, he says it worked
fine for some days but now its got a TC ERROR that doesnt allow you to
use several parameters of it, including the faders for example, so the
only way to get audio out is route to one of the busses pre fader.
Does anyone have an idea of what might be happening? the firmware is
version 1.14.
By the way, can you install version 2.23 without going trough some
other version before?
thanx

This errors means that the SMPTE timecode source is flaky.

It has been a while, so I have forgotten the details regarding OS
upgrading, etc...

What city is your friend in?
