Samson C01U and Cubase SX
Hi,
A friend of mine is trying to ditch all his analogue gear and move everything on to PC, so he has bought an M-Audio soundcard, Cubase SX (version 1 unfortunately...) and the above Samson c01u mic (which connects through the USB). The problem is latency with the mic - is this a limitation with the USB connection? I have messed about with the software, but can't seem to get it down (though i did manage to get it working at all which was an improvement on him!) Thanks for any advice on this he is annoying the $hit out of me about it! Blair (digital 8 track and happy thank you) |

Seems its just inherent lag in monitoring - not lag using the mic at
all - please disregard this , my mate is a numpty :-D wrote: Hi, A friend of mine is trying to ditch all his analogue gear and move everything on to PC, so he has bought an M-Audio soundcard, Cubase SX (version 1 unfortunately...) and the above Samson c01u mic (which connects through the USB). For Cubase: 1. Open the task manager and select the processes tab 2. Close Cubase (if it is running) 3. While watching the process list, open Cubase and see which process is added to the list. 4. Select (right-click) that process 5. On the dropdown box, select Set Priority 6. Select Realtime 7. Click Yes in the pop-up warning box That should speed things up, alot. Then, go into the control panel and select the icon (line) with "Sound Devices" or something similar in the title (depends on the operating system). Poke around and set all the acceleration rates, and speed controls for every device, to as high as they will go. Hope this helps, Don't think it will, much. Audio latency is pretty much a function of the buffer size used in the soundcard's driver. (In this case, the Samson mic is acting as it's own "soundcard".) I hope I am wrong. But, from the information I can find, the Samson does not appear to offer low-latency drivers. This doesn't mean that it can't be used to make perfectly synchronised multi-track recordings - we managed that or years before low-latency drivers were ever available. But it DOES mean that direct input monitoring through Cubase is a no-no. My CubaseFAQ discusses latency.
