FS: INFINITY RS III Speakers
Infinity RS III Speakers, $399
Image: http://members.aol.com/KDresch/rs3.html Under Arnie Nudell's leadership, Infinity was at their height when this model was produced. Innovations such as the EMIT, Dual voice coil Watkins woofer, polypropylene cones and brilliant industrial design put the Infinity brand on top. Arnie left Infinity in 1990. The RS III is an impressive speaker, visually and acoustically. It is a large speaker measuring 48"h x 18"w x 7"d. Each speaker weights 80lbs! Each cabinet contains two 8" woofers. The first is crossed over at 60Hz. The second crosses over to the midrange at 300Hz. The mid is crossed over to the EMIT tweeter at 3,000Hz. The woofers utilize polypropylene cones and have just had their foam expertly replaced (all four). The mid is a 5" version with cast basket, polypropylene cone and butyl rubber surround. The top end is handled effortlessly with the famous Infinity EMIT. The cabinets are stunning in their real oak veneer finish. The brown sheer knit grills are transparent enough to give a hint of the impressive drivers behind them. You may ask why didn't Infinity use larger low end driver. The fact is dual 8" drivers can react quicker for a tighter, more controlled low end. ADS agreed with this trend when designing their renowned speakers from the period (L 710, L 810) The trend even today is smaller woofers. These speakers are only down 2dB at 40 Hz, quite impressive. These speakers were owned since new by a friend of mine. He is very picky about his possessions and this fact shows on these speakers. I'd rate them NEAR mint. Many would call them MINT. All the original drivers are working fine. The cabinet has no discernible defects. The grills are like new with logos intact. Each speaker has a stand which stabilizes it and tilts it back slightly. These speaker are very detailed. They will quickly point out deficiencies in the rest of your system. This speaker is rated between 35 and 200 watts per channel. They are rated at 4 ohms so an amp that is stable into low impedance loads works best. Included is a technical manual sheet for the RS III. The RS III listed for $975 a pair from 1981-83. I can offer these beauties for only $399 pair plus shipping. (80lbs net, 95lbs gross each) Due to the size of these I will have to charge a nominal packing fee of $20 for the pair.
