Default Carrying small speakers ?

I've recently come across several folks who carry around small
speakers. Some are engineers who carry
monitors among studios, some are artists who are carrying small
monitors with laptop-based recording/live
audio systems, some were acoustic performers who are using small self-
powered studio monitors as onstage
monitors.

In the last couple of months I've heard all these folks say that they
are having a hard time finding good cases
in which they can carry their speakers, and a search (albeit quick and
cursory) that I did didn't turn up any sort
of luggage to accomodate these sorts of things.

Of course I'd expect that they'd like a case for these that would be
light, strong and easily portable. Before
this writing I polled some of these folks and I find that the
dimensions they're talking about for the speakers
are, more or less, about (W x H x D). 6.5” x 10.5” x 7.75”. The depth
and weight vary among active and passive
speakers.

Do you all know of any cases for speakers of these general dimensions
that are available now?

Alternatives most welcome.

Many thanks,

stv

I use Pelican cases for my AIBO and my view camera. Pelican cases have
pluckable foam, so you can customize them for specific items.

Look aroiund for a good price. Some dealers offer substantial discounts.

I had a custom case made up to fit two NHT Super Ones. It cost me $120, which
seems pretty fair. It was done by one of the outfits that advertises in the
back of Mix, but I don't have a company name offhand since I am in San Jose
without them right now.

I had some nice padded sleeve/bags made up for some 15" FBT speakers - cost
about US$60 each, from a local generic bag-maker. All very straight-forward,
if you have a local bag-maker...

I use makeup cases, available at thrift stores for about $5.00 each. My
LS3/5a speakers fit into them very nicely; in one it's a perfect fit, while
the other requires a small dish towel for padding. Make a tour of thrift
stores in your area; check the latches of any luggage you're interested in
very carefully, and smell the inside of the cases too.

Peace,
Paul

They'll smell like cosmetics forever, but have the dual
advantages of cost (nuttin) and stealth. No self-respecting
thief would lay ungloved hand upon one, so stuff precious-
to-you-and-attractive-to-amateur-thieves like cameras and
accessories can be left in motel rooms without (as much)
compunction.

The smell actually helps keep semi-honest people semi-honest!

Much thanks, as always,

Platt makes cases that will fit the bill. I have one that I think
would hold both of those speakers.

good latches, pluckable foam. I paid about $70 from MCM
