Gas was cheap, GM execs considered electric slightly unmanly (look to Bob Lutz's comments on hybrids before he saw Toyota's sales figures), and GM was selling SUVs hand-over-fist to the suckers^Wpublic, so why would they want to undercut the "Big Is Good" message? It was a coerced requirement that led to a mere couple of thousands of cars being built for people who would have said EVs were great even if their range had been 15 miles. It was never a practical everyday vehicle for the vast majority and most likely a pure EV never will be. Graham |
