Default Rock tracks to show off subwoofer?

I know most people will play a bass mikanik or some hip-hop or rap sound
track to show off what a subwoofer can do. but I was curious as to your rock
listeners out there like to listen to or use to show off what your sub (or
subs) can do (personally I listen to EVERYTHING except country) one CD I've
been listening to a lto lately and the bass is done pretty well is "Frances
the Mute" by The Mars Volta, it's a pretty great album, on the progressive
side of rock, but the bass is great in my opinion. just curious as to what
others are listening to right now

Various Nine Inch Nails songs

Dire Straits - Money for Nothing

I would second these choices by Tony and would add:

Tool - Prison Sex (this song ROCKS!!! on a big system)
Stepenwolf - Magic Carpet Ride (you won't believe how low the bass is for
such an old song)
The Clash - Radio Clash
Warren Zevon - Wearwolves of London
Joe Walsh - Life's Been Good to Me

Find a Mike Oldfield CD from 1990, called "Amarok". It's a single
instrumental piece, just a hair over 60 minutes long. About a minute
and a half in, and again about three and a half minutes in, are some
insane bass notes. When I was working installing back then, we used to
blow up a couple thumper twerps' rap-tuned boxes that couldn't handle
anything below 60Hz....

Check out some of the newer stuff too... "A Momentary Lapse of Reason"
has some great production, great bottom end in places, and the opening
track is a wonderful test of your imaging.

KUDOS to the Dire Straits. That song has such a clean sounding bass line to
it.

Linkin Park - Lying Away From You (I think that's the name)

311 - Misdirected Hostility

Shadows Fall - The Light That Blinds

Dark New Day - Free

Marylin Manson Mechanical Animals works well, Holywood is lighter on the low
stuff though.

Butthole Surfers' Electriclarryland has a song (can't remember which
one) that if you aren't paying attention and have the volume too high
will bust your subs.

I think you're talking about "Pepper" off Electricityland. Yes, that is a
KILLER song for bass and I would have put it on my list had I remembered it.
Good Choice!!!!

I went to a lyric site to be sure I had the song name right (I don't even
think they mention the word "Pepper"). I did, here's the lyrics:

Marky got with Sharon
And Sharon got Sharice
She was sharing Sharon's outlook
On the topic of disease
Mikey had a facial scar
And Bobby was a racist
They were all in love with dyin'
They were doing it in Texas
Tommy played piano
Like a kid out in the rain
Then he lost his leg in Dallas
He was dancing with a train
They were all in love with dyin'
They were drinking from a fountain
That was pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain
I don't mind the sun sometimes
The images it shows
I can taste you on my lips
And smell you in my clothes
Cinnamon and sugary
And softly spoken lies
You never know just how you look
Through other people's eyes
Some will die in hot pursuit
In fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain

[Chorus]

Another Mikey took a knife
While arguing in traffic
Flipper died a natural death
He caught a nasty virus
Then there was the ever-present
Football player rapist
They were all in love with dyin'
They were doing it in Texas
Polly caught a bullet
But it only hit his leg
Well it should have been a better shot
And got him in the head
They were all in love with dyin'
They were drinking from a fountain
That was pouring like an avalanche
Coming down the mountain

[Chorus]

My standard test track, Recycler
My Heads in Mississippi, ZZ Top.

This has a low 35 Hz note that is clearly strong on a system that goes low,
and almost inaudible on systems that do not.
