I was playing with the computer speakers in Best Buy the other

The sound was typical Bose...no highs, no lows, unfocused
imaging, etc.

So why am I bothering to write this? Look at this pictu

Very nice machined aluminum, with a rubber ring that controls
volume. A real pleasure to use. Phone ringing? Just tap the
top of the thing and it mutes.

There are also jacks for aux input (iPod?), and headphones.

A very cool idea and well-implemented. They should sell the
control pod separately so it could be used with good speakers.

great, just what I need. Something else to clutter my desk.

When I want to mute the sound, I hit F11. I've assigned that key to mute my
sound card's mixer.

**I purchased one of the new Microsoft keyboards. Cost me AUS$22.00. It has
a whole bunch of extra keys, amongst which is one labelled "Mute". There are
some generic keyboards which offer the same thing for even less money. My
only gripe with the MS product is that I have to hit the "F Lock" key to
enable "Insert". Otherwise, it is a pretty decent keyboard.

BTW: Are there any keyboards available, which offer the same durability and
'touch' as the old PS2 keyboards? I still reckon it was the best keyboard
ever made.

I've got a black IBM keyboard that is a lot like the PS2
keyboard. I have used it for years with no problem except the
letters are starting to wear off the a and e keys. I got it at
a closeout at CompUSA about 5 years ago.

**I still have 2, almost new, PS2 keyboards. Trouble is, they don't have all
the fancy extra keys on the more modern ones.

Who the hell needs all those stupid keys? Get some keyboard accelerator
software and use the existing keys with shift/control/alt modifiers. Example
control/shift/O brings up opera for me. A hell of a lot easier than taking
my hands off the main keys to find the "web browser" key

Got a great GE black web keyboard at Target Stores a few months ago
for about $15. Has all the bells and whistles keys plus mute and
volume. Works like a champ with my Polk PC speakers.

Yeah as in it would click when you actually typed a character, so you
could reliably touch-type.

Clicking might help beginners, but it is nothing but an annoyance to anybody
who has typed for more than a few months.

The absolute worst keyboard of all time is the keyboard on the first IBM PC.

Well I've been typing for a long time and I loved that first IBM
keyboard. Maybe I'm the only one who isn't a beginner who doesn't
share your opinion. shrug

The original IBM keyboards were fine for me I touch type at 60wpm+.

As long as you didn't need to use the skinny shift, alt, return or backspace
keys and as long as you didn't have to share the room with anybody else who
might not appreciate the 90db of clatter.

I don't recall my keyboard producing anything like that level of
extraneous noise, but then I pressed the keys as required rather than
bashing it with my fists.

You couldn't make that keyboard any louder if you were a 50lb typist. It
make full volume all by itself. TICKETY TICKETY TICKETY TICKETY
