Gentlemen,

I've got a dozen or so BU208 used transistors for free.
AFAIK those are HV switching BJTs, maybe used in (and
ripped from) TV deflection circuitry.

Are those possibly usable for B+ regulation purposes,
or does their "switching" characteristics prevent any
usage for voltage regulation?

Not a problem at all. They should work fine for B+
regulation.

The BU208 would be the most reliable pass element I know for
a series regulator.

The switching capability does not effect its performance in a regulator.
