Default Help with Connecting two sony receivers????

I have a Sony STR-DA1000ES in my living room and a STR-DA1ES in my bedroom.
I would like to be able to have whatever is playing on my DA1000ES to play
though my DA1ES. I've tried using an optical cable from the MD/Tape out
(optical) connector to the Optical MD/Tape input on the DA1ES with no
success. Any suggestions would be very welcome. Thanks.

Is this a case where the optical stuff is simply a "pass through" without
the necessary converters to digital? I've got some kit like that.
