Default Clifford 700IQ Troubleshooting

I'm trying to troubleshoot a Clifford 700IQ that is only
semi-responsive to the remote.

The alarm "died" after the car battery was disconnected by my
dealership. I was able to get it to respond again by unplugging the
unit for a couple hours then plugging it back in.

My range is severely limited, max about 30 feet. I replaced the remote
battery but it didn't seem to make a difference. I have the remote
antenna and used to have at least 300-400 feet of range.

Sometimes it doesn't respond even when standing next to the car. This
seems to occur after activating the remote starter. Today I started the
car from about 30 feet away, but then it took about 30 attempts to
unlock the doors. Even holding the remote about 6" from the antenna
didn't seem to make a difference.

Any ideas? It's possible I didn't get it connected correctly. The brain
is buried under the dash and I can either look at it or manipulate it
by touch, but I can't look at it and try to plug it in at the same time
(I'm 6'5" and it's a tight fit, even in an Expedition!).

Please don't suggest contacting Clifford. If you can actually get
through, they won't give you any info unless you're a dealer. There
don't appear to be any dealers offering service in my area.

Thanks

boy i hate that damn remote thing. Why can't you use your hand to open
the door? do you have to use a remote stuff all the time and aren't you
tire of push the damn remote buttons all the time. Why you need a
remote in your car? I assume you got a plenty of remote in your houses.
Why don't
you just walk and stand right next to the door and use hand and open
the door? It's simply. YOu don't have o push 30 times to unlock doors.
What kind of idiot would do that?

i would suggest that if you can, check to see if the antenna might have
come unplugged from the units brain.

this would severelly effect the response on an alarm systems
operational performance.

if it has not come unplugged from the brain unit, possiblally the wire
going to the antenna has gotten brokrn or pinched, hindering the units
response severly shortened.

anyway, i would look into any aspect that has to do with the antenna
portion of the alarm. that is the first thing i would look into

well... that and obviously check and change the batteries in the
remote control for the alarm.
but i'm willing to bet that you've already tried that.

I've had the same problem with mine (Crimestopper) since the install..
5 ft maybe.. sometimes less.
I got under the dash and re-routed the antenna to no avail..The original OEM
remote door lock unit is still hooked up, and still works...Wondering if the
receivers are messing with each other.. Or other interference..? Let me know
if you resolve this.

I'll have to play with it some more. As I said, my biggest problem is
getting a good look at it.

Other weird thing it that when it's totally non-responsive is usually
just after I used it (start car, but won't respond to unlock)
