Default What about predistorting the source material?

Once you've taken the horrible first-order problems out of
your car audio system, you should be able to characterize what you have
and apply arbitrarily complex compensation filters to the source
material before you burn it on a CD or flash card to play in the car.

It's a hassle, but no worse than Ipod users face every day.
A couple of DVD-RW full of predistored mp3s would keep me
Fergalicious in the truck for months on end.

Is there any freeware available to experiment with this?
Thanks, mike
