Not at all, 2pid. She could cast aspersions about other people's
military service, like some other "people of character" do here.

I don't need to cast aspersions about your service.
You did that bragging about discarding it as an act of protest
yourself.

Discard what, 2pid? I didn't throw anything away. One of us has a
"Major, Retired, U.S. Army" ID card. One of us does not. ;-)

*And one of us bragged that their "retirement" was an act of protest.

Bull****.

*A despicable use of military service and wholly inappropriate.

Not so, dim one. Look at what you are advocating: leading soldiers in
a hostile-fire zone without the expertise in the area one would be
leading in, and without a belief that what was going on was right.

As I said, you are a worthless, thoughtless piece of ****. In a
paraphrase of what gets said to me quite often, "Thank you for not
serving". You're a disaster.

*It's just more of your starship trooper BS.

Not at all, 2pid. It's the truth: you couldn't be bothered to devote
one nanosecond to what you're wailing about. Ditto politics. Weep weep
weep. wail wail wail. Whine whine whine. Bark bark bark. Yap yap yap.

If you earned any respect for your service you just as quickly
lost it forgetting what you serve.

And what is it that the military serves, 2pid? Do you even know?

Nope.

What an utter dumb****.

Very old school, and foolish and expensive.

Therefore, at best false premises.

But by implication then: education using MACs =
thousands upon thousands of worker-bees using word
processing and spreadsheeting on MACx in the office.

Irrelevant. No logical connection shown.

If MACs in schools wre the source of musicians using
MACs, Arny, why is it not also the source of worker-bees
using MACs in our offices.

No logical connection shown.

BTW, folks if you look at the properties of Harry's posts, they come from a
computer that is running MS Windows.

"The Absolute Sound editor Robert Harley (in the December 2007 issue) has
published a seminal work comparing computer based Music Servers to
traditional dedicated CD playback. Mr. Harley rightfully concludes that
optical disc CD playback is inferior to hard-disk based playback.
This is really good news as I’ve been none too kind to the high-end industry
for dragging **s. Finally expensive rotational CD transports are now
officially declared obsolete and worthless. Pay particular attention to
Stereophile magazine who still frequently review (and carries ads) for the
most outrageously priced CD disc playback gear. (If only I could sell

Now that the rotational music era is finished, Mr. Harley with the
assistance of Karl Schuster, quickly moves on to provide a step-by-step
guide to turning your PC into a music server. It is the best single source
of concise information and puts the fragmented piece-meal Internet searches
to shame. "

Best single guide? That would be a first!

I've been advocating playing music on PCs since the 1990s, and gotten abused
by the usual RAO idiot trolls all along.

If you're really serious, find a December 2007 issue of
the The Absolute Sound. Here is a link as to its
contents: http://www.enjoythemusic.com/tas/177/

Of particular interest will be three articles on pages

"The Absolute Sound editor Robert Harley (in the
December 2007 issue) has published a seminal work
comparing computer based Music Servers to traditional
dedicated CD playback. Mr. Harley rightfully concludes
that optical disc CD playback is inferior to hard-disk
based playback.
This is really good news as I’ve been none too kind to
the high-end industry for dragging **s. Finally
expensive rotational CD transports are now officially
declared obsolete and worthless. Pay particular
attention to Stereophile magazine who still frequently
review (and carries ads) for the most outrageously
priced CD disc playback gear. (If only I could sell
tickets!)

Now that the rotational music era is finished, Mr.

Irrelevant. No logical connection shown.

No logical connection shown.

BTW, folks if you look at the properties of Harry's posts, they come from

Yep, because I've got years of legacy using PC's (back in the early '80's)
for business purposes....but if I were starting over I'd go MAC, as my
daughter the multimedia editor has done, and my niece, and my nephew, and my
sister and her husband. But I've got a ton of PC software, and I upgrade my
own gear, so it has been a natural evolution for me. But I'll flat out say
the MACs are better for media work, although its a lot closer than it used
to be in terms of getting the work done.....but the MAC is still head and
shoulders above the PC in operating system reliability.

Looks to me like Adobe is turning their back on Apple.

Something about Adobe being a well-managed company that follows long-term
market trends.

Right. It has nothing to do with them moving to a complete overhaul/rewrite
of the software so that it is much more multiplatform in its basic
structure, does it? Postponing the 64 bit upgrade to the newer
software....THAT is a logical business decision (maybe not the best for
Photoshop loyalists) but certainly understandable.

The market disagrees with you Harry. Every multimedia product worth its salt

I don't need to cast aspersions about your service.
You did that bragging about discarding it as an act of protest

Discard what, 2pid? I didn't throw anything away. One of us has a

Â*And one of us bragged that their "retirement" was an act of protest.

LoL, now you want to run away from your own history.

Well, in two years you and Clyde have gone from "Shhhh! is not a
retired military officer" to "But you Retired in Protest!" Perhaps in
another two years the trurh that you are apparently so afraid of will
sink through your Densium skull. Lol!

Here you go, 2pid: the very first mention of my reasons for retiring
from the military that I can find in Google, just for you!

************************************************** **********************
Semantics.... now you must define invasion for us.
Any military incursion inside their borders? How about air space?

Actually, I do not have to define anything for 'us.' In fact, there is
nothing that I 'must' do for you, 'us' or anybody else.

If you want to, why don't you define 'invasion' for 'us'?

Scott, without getting lost in minutiae and arguing about whatever
happened on April 3rd 1946 at 12:00, as is the typical response to any
claim or argument made on r.a.o that I've seen, and which is also the
track you are very much trying to go down here, the point is this:

Unlike the Roman, Macedonians, Greeks, Norse, Spanish, British,
French,
Germans, or any other 'empire' down throught the ages, we have not,
until now, tried to invade other nation-states to militarily conquer
other lands to make them bend to our will. We changed from the War
Department to the Department of Defense. That, to me, was more than
just a symbolic name change. We should change it back.

You, on the other hand, want to claim that actions such as this:

NICARAGUA
1981-90
Command operation, naval CIA directs exile (Contra) invasions, plants
harbor mines against revolution.

are exactly the same. I disagree.

You believe whatever you wish. I find this much more interesting than
debating minutiae with you:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11467986/

Particularly this quote:

At any rate, the school isn't just about operating in Iraq, Short
said,
but about preparing officers for the rest of their careers. "I think
*we're going to be in more of these wars*," he said. (Emphasis mine.)

So my point, before it gets lost in a boring (I should say *more*
boring) debate with you about what constitutes an invasion vs. another
operation in your mind, is this: we have, as a nation and a military,
turned a corner that I disagree with. That was what I said. That was
what I meant. That was, in part, why I chose to retire when I did. And
I stand by that statement.

On the bright side, another point that I've made is that the military
is very ill-suited to these missions. It appears that, after three
years, they're starting to figure that out. Unfortunately, as the
article says, in order to do the job right, we have to leave our
bases.
That is without question true, but that also exposes the troops to
higher levels of danger.

So Scott, you go on your merry little way and argue that the US has
acted exactly the same as the previous empire-building nations that
have had the biggest, baddest militaries on Earth have acted down
through history. I don't think that we have in the past. I think we
are
starting to now. You disagree. I predict the results will be the same
for us. You probably think that we will somehow get a different result
from what history has shown, just as rummy thinks that new weapons
mean
the underlying concepts of warfare have changed.

Whatever.

: random cuts? And which will hold 500+ CDs?

A hard drive to hold the data (for portability, use an external HD).
I just losslessly ripped (to FLAC format files) about 400 CDs, which
take up about 140 GBs. You can get a HD larger than this for about $75.
(Get two, one for backup, if you're worried about crashing).

For actually getting the data to your stereo, one option is the
Squeezebox, sold by SlimDevices. Excellent DAC inside, and
very nice (and free) software. See:

http://www.slimdevices.com

the new model, with a video interface, is the Duet; the Classic
doesn't have this (but is a nice piece of equipment).

The hard drive can be attached to a Windows, Mac, or Limux computer, or to a network storage
drive.

You: education using MACs = foolish

..and unecessarily expensive.

musicians/engineers spending money on MACs to record
music

Very old school, and foolish and expensive.

Therefore, at best false premises.

But by implication then: education using MACs =
thousands upon thousands of worker-bees using word
processing and spreadsheeting on MACx in the office.

Irrelevant. No logical connection shown.

If MACs in schools wre the source of musicians using
MACs, Arny, why is it not also the source of worker-bees
using MACs in our offices.

No logical connection shown.

BTW, folks if you look at the properties of Harry's
posts, they come from a computer that is running MS
Windows.

Yep, because I've got years of legacy using PC's (back in
the early '80's) for business purposes....

Well, you started out right, Harry.

I started out logically, Arny, since I had a pretty good intuition as to
what my businesses needs would be. Religous certainty had nothing to do
with it.

but if I were
starting over I'd go MAC, as my daughter the multimedia
editor has done,

I see that poor critical thinking may run in the family. Or maybe its a
job thing. My daughter worked in a lab that was run by Mac bigots.

Ever hear of the Final Cut Pro Suite, Arny? Its the standard for this kind
of work. And it is a MAC program.

and my niece, and my nephew, and my
sister and her husband.

Educators, all. Again, using the standard tools of their trade, Arny. And
BTW they get them at good academic discounts...green again, Arny?

Birds of a feather flock together, it seems.

Didn't you mother ever tell you to just shut up if you ave nothing to say,
Arny?

But I've got a ton of PC
software, and I upgrade my own gear, so it has been a
natural evolution for me.

The point is Harry, that you don't practice what you preach, again.

What am I "preaching" Arny? Theirs that religiousity again...totally out
of line with reality.

But I'll flat out say the MACs are better for media work,

The market disagrees with you Harry. Every multimedia product worth its
salt runs primarily on a PC these days. If there are any exceptions, its
because McIntosh forcably keeps it from being ported to the dominant
platform, in a vain attempt to keep on selling their overpriced software.

Again, ever hear of Final Cut Pro, Arny? Aperture? These are professional
standards, as well as Photoshop for the MAC.

although its a lot closer than
it used to be in terms of getting the work done.....but
the MAC is still head and shoulders above the PC in
operating system reliability.

Nahhh. It's also way down on compatiblity with most of the real world.

I see. Dual boot is "way down on compatibility" Arny? How well do PC's run
MAC software, Arny. With or without dual boot?

But I can see how someone who buys into High End Audio hype would carry
the same lack of critical thinking to their computer preferences, at least
their computer preferences in their dreams.

You are the one saying I have a MAC preference, not me. Computers are
tools, Arny, not things to worship.

Thank you. Nice to get a serious answer that didn't degrade into a ****ing
contest.
