Installer in central NY?
Anyone know of a competent installer in CNY? I've scoured the
Syracuse area but have found nothing but incompetence. I'd be willing to travel to Rochester or Utica if the person's any good. I'm sick of people trying to charge you a fortune despite not knowing a damned thing. |

What is so hard about this install you need done? Do you need custome
fabrication that you can't do yourself? It's hard to believe that every installer in your area is that bad. What do you consider incompetence? "Mark Zarella" wrote in message om... I do not know their aftermarket div but OEM div is very good. Jeff |

What is so hard about this install you need done? Do you need custome
fabrication that you can't do yourself? I need my speakers to be installed in the doors. Everyone I've gone to has said that it can't be done, even though I've done it before myself in the very same type of car. They're just lazy, ignorant, or incompetent. It's hard to believe that every installer in your area is that bad. What do you consider incompetence? Every installer that I've spoken to in my area is incompetent. Obviously I haven't spoken to everyone, which is why I asked the question. But I've spoken to several, mostly the bigger ones. By incompetence, I mean an installer who says he cannot do the job or refuses to do the job so they can sell me something else. Or other signs that the person has no idea what they're talking about. For instance, today I picked my car back up after dropping it off to have it looked at. He said he couldn't do it and my only other option would be to have kick panels made. That, he said, would require that he have the car at least 4 days and probably a week. Incompetence. In addition, he told me that one subwoofer would not provide enough bass to even hear in this car, and he cited the ONE installation in this type of car that his shop has ever done. I heard all about this installation in my last visit, where they were shocked to find that the bass was lacking when they put the sub in the factory location in the rear deck (surprise surprise). That, in and of itself, should have told me not to waste my time. Anyway, everywhere I've visited has come up with some sort of BS story. Good installers are hard to find - no, impossible to find. |

What kind of car is this??
98 caddy sts What kind of speakers?? a/d/s/ 6's and 4's in the front doors, morel 6's and 2's in the rear doors. any paticular reason everyone is saying this can't be done?? The reasons have been vague. Mounting depth is the big issue. The stock speakers have about a 2" mounting depth and the aftermarkets are about 3". However, there's a strong 1/2" (probably more if I recall) between the speaker and glass, and if they build it out from the door some they've got a strong inch between the speaker and grille. But whenever I tell them this they go "hmmmm...". The other issue is that they have to build a baffle on which to mount the 6 and 4. Today's shop cited that as a reason for not wanting to do it: "nah, you don't want it that way, we'd have to build a baffle and everything". Well no **** sherlock. The other excuses from other places have just been retarded. If you've done the same thing in this car before why are you looking for someone else to do it?? Because I currently don't have the space to do it. I hate having to run the jigsaw in the living room. Also, I don't really have the time right now either. Turns out I'll probably have to do it myself anyway in the spring over someone else's house. |

Mark,
Hi, I'm from Syracuse. Which places did you goto already? I've always done my own installations, but I have visited most of the shops in the Syr. area. What I've found is that if you didn't buy the stuff from their shop they don't want to talk to you. Did you try Automotive Professionals in Liverpool? I needed a wiring harness and knob for an Eclipse deck and they located the items I needed and were willing to help out even though I hadn't bought anything from them. The other Eclipse 'shop' in Syr. didn't want to be bothered with even looking up the part number or getting me a contact number. I've also had good experience with Wells Bros. on Hiawatha Blvd. They always seem willing to solve/ackle a problem. Let me know.. Ivan "Mark Zarella" wrote in message om... Very small shop, but they seemed more than willing to give it a go and understood exactly what I'm looking to do. After speaking to the guys for quite a bit, I'm cautiously optimistic. We'll see what happens. Thanks for the suggestion. |
