Default Another "who makes the best" question

I have a Marshall handwired 1974x amp and it has an EZ81
rectifier tube in it. I already plan on trying some NOS
Telefunken and Mullard EL84's and 12AX7's in it and I was
wondering who makes "the best" EZ81's.

Thanks, -Barry

Hi Barry -
There are no "great ez81's" - not for guit' amps - they all bite... I
assume you want to keep the amp 100% original, so just keep an extra one
with the amp, so you won't crap out when the one in it craps out. Tone
wise, you won't hear any difference, no matter which brand you go with - get
a few, look inside, make sure their innner structure is solid, give it a few
"pings" with your fingernail after playing the amp flat-out on the dimes -
make sure the noise you hear is *not* coming from the rect. tube. And
forget about "best" - just play the sucker.
All this is said after, perhaps, 500 hours spent on the phone with clients
looking for "the best" for their marshes...
