I remember a 1F capacitor that was about the size of an airport Cinnabon sticky bun, but that was probably close to 20 years ago. There's a commercial name for these things now, maybe it's ElCap. I've seen a clock/calendar module assembly that has one. I hear them called ultracapacitors. For the most part, they have extremely high ESR and behave as much like a battery as a real capacitor. But they are great for things like memory standby. You could argue (as my physics professor did) that since electrolytic capacitors aren't storing charge electrostatically that they are not really capacitors at all.
