Default wanted: "Recording" light/studio sign

Go to Home Despot and buy an exit sign. replace the front metal
with a piece of black-wrap* that you have cut out the letters with an
exacto knife.

I used to make them FOR broadcast stations, from exit light fixtures,
because the electrical inspectors liked all the UL stamps on them.. and
the electrical contractors were used to them. I got some frosted glass
cut the right size. Then I 'borrowed' those rubber letters that
supermarkets use to make quick signs by spraying around them, cleaned the
glass with alcohol, and sprayed a light coat of automotive red lacquer
over the glass on the 'back' frosted side with the rubber letters
'reversed'. Made a nice bright red light with bright white ON THE AIR or
RECORDING lettering. You could make some nice customized ones with your
logo or whatever...

I put an electrical lock on one Production Studio door since people
seemed to be selectively blind... But in those days consoles had relays
that closed when the mike switch was turned on, for muting the monitor
speakers and switching the on-the-air lights.
