Yamaha DVD S-2500 problem
Bonjour,
I've just purchased a Yamaha DVD S2500 as a multiformat player. I'm hearing a noise (around 3,2Khz) when the player is in stanby mode or powering up; the noise although not loud seems to stops after a CD or DVD has played and changing AC outlet is of no avail. I'm somewhat surprised to have an equipment of that price range (1000 CA$) add it's own 'music'. Has anyone experienced a similar problem ? or others ? Thanks for any info. |

Addendum : Heat
Well, unless i've been missing a week-long holliday, it seems I am the only internaut on the planet to have purchused this multi-format player ....??!? Another thing I've noticed. Yesterday I left the sound system on most of the afternoon[1] after listening to a CD. I watched a DVD movie early in the evening and when I ejected it the DVD disk was VERY warm; the S-2500 player was hot to the point that I will remove my old VHS sitting on to of it for fear it might be damaged. My brother had this heat problem with the S-2300 but we thought it cured with this model ?! [1] Aah indeed, summer in Canada last more than a scorching saturday afternoon, well ... almost a couple of weeks ;-) Again, any comment on similar experiences or advices are welcomed ! |

I haven't noticed anything like the problem you describe. But mY player is on the other side of the room, so if it did make a small noise, I doubt I'd hear it. Another thing I've noticed. Thanks Steven ...
- Glad yours doesn't seem to make noise. - As for heat ("... All players 'warm up' discs as they play, in my experience.") I don't have a thermomether handy but I could nearly warm a dinner on the S2500 player, if not boil water. No CD player of mine or even an older Sony DVD/CD player ever generated such heat. - Further discussion with my brother revealed yet another problem: his S2300 disk tray is not opening/closing properly, for the second time since he bought it. A friend of his has the same player and while he did not experiece the tray problem he concurs with the excessive heat coming from the unit. Well, at this point, I've decided to return the Yamaha DVD S2500 and purchase a Denon 2910 or 3910. |

Try spinning one in your computer's CD-RW drive. - Further discussion with my brother revealed yet another problem: his S2300 disk tray is not opening/closing properly, for the second time since he bought it. I don't experience a problem; I do note that the player's response to commands is slow. From what I read on other forums, this a consequence of the chipsets used. Well, at this point, I've decided to return the Yamaha DVD S2500 and purchase a Denon 2910 or 3910. I'm happy with the S2500 -- which I use essentially as a transport. It;'s nice to have ilink passing all formats to my receiver's DACs. -- -S "You know what love really is? It's like you've swallowed a great big secret.
