RDH4 mirror is back on-line
Sorry for that guys. Just got an email from Gregg saying
the folder asks for a password, my mistake as I was protecting the root folder not the RDH4 one. It would be nice if you d/l to leave a thank you note to Gregg for making this book available ( and whoever took the time to scan that huge book ). Book is here : http://www.oldradioz.com/manuals/rdh4 A healthy and happy Christmas full of surprises ( good ones ) to you and yours ! Syl |

Syl I don't know who scanned it originally, but it is the files from the CD that Antique Audio Supply sells. ....I was/still is converting this to digital text, admittedly at a sluggardly rate. Some of the earlier chapters were basically by-hand as OCR software will simply not read complex symbols or Greek characters. I got a new computer setup now, with dual screens (!), and am getting back into working on it. It would have been grand to have it done in time for the tube's 100th/books 50th anniversary, but for free, there was no way I was gonna make that happen. Should go faster now.... I'm in chapter 10, p 439 as of today. I don't have much to show for it all yet because what I am doing is converting the text to a Word file, and then later the layout will need to be done in InDesign for conversion to PDF-but the layout work will go very fast, by far the most work is setting up all teh test and MATH CHARACTERS properly. Word-processing programs can't do good enough layout for the math formulas, and I won't use Word's formula builder plugin-thing. It is a pain to use and I don't know that it will embed in a PDF properly. I had planned a "horizontal" layout for PC screens as well as reproducing the book's original layout, but I am seeing that many of the illustrations need help as well, especially those with small cursive lettering.... I will say that what I have planned is one big file, with both the table of contents and the index actively linked, and the text conversion will allow fulltext searches. ----- Also, there's a number of scanning errors in that CD version, that you need the book to really view. The biggest one yet is in chapter 6 "Mathematics", bottom of page 267 is chopped off, and they put the bottom of page 266 on instead. Other than that, a couple instances of doubled letters, but not a lot of errors really. Mostly inconsistent editing. ~~~~~ |
