Default Possible security system problem

After replacing the radiator in my son's '95 Hyundai Elantra, it won't
start. The dashboard and parking lights flash on and off, but it won't
crank. There is a non-factory LED on the far left side of the
dashboard and a pushbutton mini-switch down under that, suggesting an
alarm system (I bought the car used). Any ideas if this is a security
system problem and how I can get the car to crank?

Turn the ignition on. Then depress the mini-switch that should disable the
alarm.

Thanks. That worked. The car did crank, but only with the help of a
booster battery. Taking off the booster battery leads, the car died.
No matter how long it ran, it died without the other battery. Then the
motor started surging from 1000 to 1500 rpm and back. Could this be
related to a security system?

No, that sounds like a charging system problem. The security system may have
killed your battery. If you are not using the alarm, then your best bet is
to disconnect it. If it is installed poorly (like 90% of most alarms) you
will find the brain next to the steering column.
