Default Radar Detector Advice

What should one look for when purchasing a radar detector? I
have never had one and am not familiar with the technology. Is there are
good checklist I can keep my eyes out for? I do not care for inferior
equipment...

Default Radar Detector Advice

RADAR detectors are just one of those things you do not want to skimp on!!
Research your decision carefullly before you buy. And remember, a RADAR
detector is practically useless unless you combine its use with common
sense.

A cheap detector might not activate for several seconds after having a RADAR
beam pointed at it. A well-built one will activate immediately. A RADAR
beam travels at the speed of light, so by the time the officer receives your
speed you usually haven't even moved your foot towards the brake pedal yet.
An obvious place detectors will work best is on highways where a cop is
using their RADAR on cars ahead of you...the detector will go off and you
will slow down before you get close enough to him for speed measurement.
But if the cop is just sitting there waiting for you to come into view and
then releases the beam there is practically no way for you to slow down
before he has you.

Here in the U.S. it's not illegal to jam Laser RADAR (LIDAR), but very
illegal to jam RADAR. That and the fact that every single RADAR jammer I've
seen doesn't work.

so i'll need to couple a jammer and a detector!!!! but then the costs

start
getting high, and i have to think if i'm actually gonna get $1000 worth of
speeding fines... probably not

i'll look at getting a decent detector though... but they are just too
expensive in australia, so i need to find a place online with good prices
that ships to australia. So if you know any such sites, let me know!

Thanks
Andrew
