Battery power.
The Ellipse contains one 6V / 1.2 Ah sealed and maintenance free battery.
The use of battery operation secures the lowest possible level of noise for
the power supply. In practice 20 dß lower than solutions based on active
regulation. Just noise is a parameter, which is extremely important for an
amplifier that has to maintain the low and extremely vulnerable signal from
a cartridge. The automatic charger makes sure the battery is always on top,
which secures a battery life span of minimum 5 years. When the battery turns
old, it gradually looses its good abilities. Consequently HOLFI recommends a
battery change every 5 - 8 years. A change of battery will cost less than
one/tenth of the price of the Ellipse.


Simple layout of electronics.
MC-cartridges deliver a very low voltage level and therefore they are extra
critical regarding noise, vibrations and hum. By this it becomes crucial to
make an amplifier as simple as ever possible. The more components involved
in the construction, the more components will put their fingerprints on the
final listening result.


The Ellipse uses only four transistors each channel to create a linearised
line level signal to the line level inputs of your amplifier. Furthermore
all components are carefully chosen regarding sound quality to create the
very warm and musical reproduction of the Ellipse.


The gain can be altered between MM and MC sensitivity to handle most of the
cartridges available on the market today.


Ease of reproduction.
The battery power and the non-feedback design make the Ellipse a very
musical and straightforward sounding amplifier and thereby the ideal partner
for the Holfi integrated amplifiers. The warm and musical character to be
found in the integrated amplifiers is even more present in the Ellipse due
to the battery power supply.
