Default Right-Clicking MP3 properties in Windows & Advanced Tag Editor in

That is, compared to accomplishing the same tasks by right clicking "Get Info" in iTunes.

Long story short - I'm sure you all know how to right-click and change the properties of mp3s/wavs/whatever in either Windows or iTunes. A dialogue box pops up and you change all sorts of stuff(artist, song name, genre, the original album, the year, etc) plus iTunes lets you insert album artwork on the right-hand-most tab. In WMP, you can do the same thing by right clicking "Advanced Tag Editor".

Problem is, in the Windows-based platforms the changes don't "stick"! Pain in the f__king ASS! iTunes? No problem! Water off a duck's back.

Isn't it about time Redmond place a call down to Cupertino to find out just HOW iTunes gets it right?

Conversely, the only thing about iTunes is that it is erasing song files from my PC's harddrive, so I'm constantly having to check for and replace music. Oh well, take the good with the bad. This is't 1/2" tape land anymore.. LMAO

I'm betting there's some sort of software conflict causing that issue.

I dunno about blaming Redmond. iTunes works great on OSX but has
always been pretty wonky on Windows in general. I always figured
Cupertino needs to Redmond call for some Windows programming help.

Conversely, the only thing about iTunes is that it is erasing song files from my PC's harddrive, so I'm constantly having to check for and replace music.

Make sure you have iTunes set to copy the media into the iTunes
library. On OSX the box to check is "Copy files to iTunes Media
folder when adding to library. Otherwise it's just referencing the
original files when you add them, so that if you're copying from
another drive and remove that drive it doesn't actually have the
media.

To make the changes "stick" you should go to menu:
Tools
"Apply Media Information Changes"

A better tool for bulk editing tags is Mp3tag
http://www.mp3tag.de/en/

"Apply Media" wouldn't work for me - I don't do bulk changes. Also once I did that, when I right clicked on a file and selected "Advanced Tag Editor" all the fields were grayed out(inaccessable)! So I'm not "going there" again!

ONLY bad thing? :-) Gee I'd rather use a 3rd party tag editor ANY day than
have my computer decide I didn't need a file any longer! Now THAT's a "pain

I don't use media player all that much. Anyway, I took a look
at some stuff I had in there and found that the only tunes that
were all grayed out were linked to ".wav" files.

Any (test) changes I made to MP3s seemed to stick just fine.

Don't have a clue why your system might be messed up.
Then too (as always) : YMMV!

iTunes has the capability of checking your library for licences for DRM
protected material, which it may delete if it can't find or download a
licence. There's also a tick box in WMP which lets you automatically
delete media when you remove items from the library.

The only reason I have iTunes installed is because one of the video
editors I use needs its codec pack. It gets nowhere near the music
collection.

Could it be a "dll" issue? And if so how do you restore missing/damaged dlls?

iTunes DRM detection - scary! As in socialist scary!

As far as deleting things from WMP playlists in its library, I make TRIPLE sure I'm deleting ONLY from the library and not from the comptuter.
