advice B&O RX2 with skating problem
wondering if anyone here can give me some advice on a bang & olufsen RX2
turntable with MMC5 cartridge. the thing worked great before it went into storage, where it remained for some years. but when I uncrated it recently I found that -- what a surprise -- the moving and storage guys must have been, umm, unsympathetically rough with it. now the tonearm skates uncontrollably. I'm not an audiophile, never was (I was barely able to remember the term "skates") but I've been through all the adjustments I can think of to tracking force, have rigorously leveled the turntable, and after that I'm out of ideas. my question is: what's my next move? do I try to scout out a reputable repair place (I'm in los angeles) and bite the bullet for what they're likely to charge me, or sell the unit as is and use the proceeds to buy a working replacement (which will likely be of a lower quality)? I don't know if I've got a minor problem or a major one or what, and so am unsure where to go from here. guess another way of putting the question is, is the turntable of sufficiently high quality that I should invest the money in a repair. would greatly appreciate any advice, and thanks in advance. |

Maybe the stylus damaged. Happens easily, and wait 'til you see the price of
a new one, if you can even find one - I don't think B & O sell them anymore. Mark Z. -- Please reply only to Group. I regret this is necessary. yeah, the stylus certainly could have gotten damaged; the unit was out of my
hands for a long time, and god knows how it got handled. so that seems like one vote for "sell it for parts"... thanks. bb _____________ "Mark D. Zacharias" wrote in message ... Hi! Hey, tell us how your RX-2 situation is...did you examine the tip to
see if the stylus was still there? Did you follow the instructions in the owners manual?...there is a switch on the bottom right hand corner of unit that controls anti-skating...you set for the MMC type you have. |
