Default Adding Subwoofer to Honda Civic factory stereo

My daughter just acquired a 2001 Honda Civic. She is pretty happy with
the factory stereo and the aftermarket XM Radio receiver, but she would
like a little "thump".

I have done some stereo installation in my day (I'm certainly not a
pro), but does anybody know whether the factory stereo is likely to have
preamp outs for the sub? There is no indication on the unit's face or
the owner's manual that it does.

If not, can anyone provide information on a simple
enclosure/sub/crossover assembly that will be easy to install?

Thanks.

Replacing the 6x9 speakers should do the trick if it's not a hatchback.
A nice pair can provide plenty of deep bass down to about 45Hz or better
for such a small car. Seal the gap between the rear shelf and seats
with foam weather stripping.

I'm not sure if the factory HU outputs low frequencies, though. It
seemed that the one in my 97 HX had a high pass filter because there was
no deep bass until I replaced it. New 6x9 speakers are a good start but
there's nothing you can add to improve bass if it's not coming out of
the HU to start with.

If you the factory stereo has a 20-pin connector in the back, Honda has
something call Subwoofer Harness 20-pin connector. I don't know if you
can get the harness itself but it is in the package when you buy the
Subwoofer from Honda. There isn't a Subwoofer option for Civic but the
connector on all Honda are the same. Try this website:
