In the mid-50's a college undergrad built a McIntosh style amp,
winding and documenting his OPT, and predating the trifilar primary in
the 275 and the use of a winding for screen supply at lower voltage in
the MI3500, by many years.

However his distortion figures weren't that great. Poor choice of core
material?
