Default New Studio Device: The Sonic janitor Opinions?

Hey folks,

This is a device that I have been working on slowly but surely for the
past 2 years or so. This is just a picture of the faceplate design
but Ill have "real" pictures of it in the next few weeks. Ive
learned a hell of a lot in the past year visiting this site and I
wanted to show y'all the goods...

The first section is called "Mic Utils" I came up with this section
after doing a lot of work for folks racking up vintage mic pres with
little or no controls. The lo ohm section is for ribbon mics. The
variable mic pad uses an elma rotary. The pushbuttons are ITT panel
mount schadow switches.

The second section is called the "Z Ramper" This is a reamplifier
device with variable level and impedance. You've all seen these
before in different forms.

The third section is called the "Z Damper"(forgive the goofy names,
just having some fun) Its a multi-z d.i. This uses a transformer
with a tap on the secondary for 12:1 or 6:1 ratio selection. Very
simple and effective.

The fourth section is an outboard line fader. Great for reducing
level in fixed gain amps like the V72 or AM16. Right now the design
is unbalanced using a conductive plastic pot, but the section can
accept balanced attenuators as well.

Ive breadboarding this thing a few times and everything is working
great. Working on the pcbs right now.

The whole thing is passive except for the phantom which is provided by
a 48v@100ma regulated wall supply. The unit will be a tabletop
device, controls and i/o facing the sky, with hardwood sides
something like the old dbx tabletop devices.

Im very curious what you guys think about this device and if you have
any comments.

Hint: "Janitor" does not have the best connotations.

What you want is a "Buddy" name, like the ones Rand Peltzer used in "Gremlins."
