Default Reasonable question for unreasonable Mcintosh product

It is said that Mc never built more than a 1 kW amplifier becuase
"that's allt he juice they could get" out of an outlet. A simple and
obvious solution to that problem, and an improvement for much audio
equipment, would be to use 220 volt power. Anyone who can afford such
an amplifier surely can afford to ahve a 220 outlet put in the
listening room!

In addition to the much greater power available, 220 offers huge
advantages in power stability, noise and grounding.

It's only sensible and correct to design products for 100-240V AC,
47-400 Hz, balanced or unbalanced product. If companies like Crown and
QSC can do this with much less expensive products, why can't
McIntosh?
