Loss of Soundfont bank on file close
Cakewalk Proaudio 8, I find that after loading a bank through
Cakewalk, if I then open a file then close that file - not close Cakewalk, just close the bank, the bank is purged from RAM. Cakewalk support claims this is what's supposed to happen. Does this sound right? Thanks for all input. |

If memory serves, you can attach up to 127 banks to a project. This is separate from whatever Windows sees as the default Soundfont. (At least in SONAR, bank 0 starts as the default Windows Soundfont.) When the project is closed, the attachment disappears. Been a while since I messed with CW, and I stopped with SONAR after we finished the last of the version 2.0 beta testings, so best to double-check with the Cakewalk newsgroup. Out of curiosity, since Cakewalk support told you this was by design, why'd you ask? John |

You wouldn't a bunch loaded up and using up your precious RAM if they're not needed. If you absolutely want some fonts to be there at all times just load them in Windows using the application that comes with the SoundBlaster (usually called AudioHQ in Control Panel). They will be taking up RAM at all times though. |

Out of curiosity, since Cakewalk support told you this was by design, why'd you ask? Because of being jaded by previous encounters with "tech support" with other major manufacturers, such as Creative Labs, where answers either had little or nothing to do with the question asked or proved to be utter b.s. Or the time the "tech" at Earthlink crashed my computer (I followed his instructions to the letter) and he was unable to undo the damage. He didn't know about restoring a previous registry, I found this out from another source since I fortunately had an old beater backup computer I could get online with. Also, this wasn't an issue with a different program, Digital Orchestrator Pro. Also, I find that Cakewalk doesn't recognize banks that aren't loaded through Cakewalk. If you load them through the Creative Soundfont manager, you can't access anything but the primary bank. Again, not an issue with Digital Orchestrator, so I didn't know if this was just the way it was with Cakewalk or if it was a bug. |

It's not a bug, it is to free up RAM.
